Most jigsaw puzzles are mass produced, laminated with plastic and sealed with single use plastic film. Not here. In partnership with Teemill we use real time manufacturing technology on a new medium to create print on demand puzzles and because we make these one at a time in the seconds after they are ordered, there's no wasteful overproduction. Each jigsaw puzzle is printed on sustainable plant-based and re-cycled card stock using environmentally friendly UV printing technology enabling us to eliminate single use plastic in our workshop which is powered by renewable energy.<\/p>

Card Recycling<\/h3>

Our card stock is made from wood fibre (cellulose), a renewable material derived from plants. In the recycling process, collected cardboard is shredded and mixed with water to form a pulp. This pulp is then spread out, pressed, and dried into large paper rolls, known as jumbo reels. During production, high-speed machinery removes contaminants such as glue, plastic film, and staples to ensure a clean final product.<\/p>

Recycled cardboard is produced entirely from post-consumer waste, supporting a circular economy by reusing existing materials rather than relying on new resources. As a plant-based material, recycled cardboard is typically biodegradable and compostable, making it environmentally friendly. Additionally, sustainable packaging often uses plant-based inks (such as soy-based ink) and water-based adhesives, ensuring the entire product remains fully plant-based.<\/p>

Why UV Printing?<\/strong>
UV printing (ultraviolet printing) is a digital printing method that uses ultraviolet light to instantly cure or dry specialised ink onto plant-based card. This process produces high-resolution, durable results and is considered more environmentally friendly, while also offering fast turnaround times.

Is UV Printing \u201cGreen\u201d?<\/strong>
UV printing is regarded as a more sustainable alternative to traditional printing methods. It reduces environmental impact by cutting VOC emissions by over 90%, lowering energy use by up to 80%, and minimising waste through instant ink curing. It also supports direct printing on sustainable materials, such as plant-based card stock used in our workshop.<\/p>

What are VOCs?<\/strong>
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are carbon-based chemicals that easily evaporate at room temperature, releasing gases into the air from solids or liquids.
